Kitchen Hut is for day use, and offers some shelter from wind and rain. The first hut was built by Gustav Weindorfer in 1910. The stone hut was built in 1939 and in 1974 the timber second storey. The odd-looking second story door is designed to provided access (and exit) in high snow.
The hut is located near the intersection of the side trip to the summit of Cradle Mountain. There is a toilet along a track just to the south of the hut.
Overnight use is prohibited except in an emergency. Plateau Creek, 800m to the north, provides a fairly reliable source of water (treat before drinking).
